Guest theeldergeek Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 We are currently running our Smoothwall Network Guardian on hardware that isn't really up to the job, but plan on moving to a more suite bit of kit over the Summer hols. The question is, can we transfer our configuration lock, stock and barrel over to the new hardware, or are we going to have to rebuild from scratch? At the very least, we'd want to transfer all the Policy's, AUP's and Filters we have set up.
powdarrmonkey Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 There's a backup and restore function in Smoothwall, it works pretty well. I've found you might have to fiddle with the IP settings afterwards, but it does the PITA things well enough. 1
ChrisH Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 You can also use the replication feature for this as well and just turn it off when your ready. 1

Ditto to that - did a backup and downloaded it - and set SW up as a VM and restored in about half an hour when we thought we had a problem with the server. 1
tom_newton Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Thanks guys saved me a job! The folk above are all correct!
contink Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 The advice I received from tech support the other day is that you do a backup of all the settings and database/log files EXCEPT for Ethernet and Network as these cause things like duplicate IP's, and transfer in network drivers you probably don't need. 1
