Sophos Anti-Virus service not starting

It happened not so long ago on our DC (Server 2008) and it's happened again today.

Sophos updates quite happily but then fails to start the Sophos Anti-Virus service with an unhelpful "unspecified error" (Error: 0x80004005)

 

I've searched and searched but can't find ANYTHING that will help me sort this out.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Do you have a support contract with Sophos? If so, I would go straight to them as I have always found their support awesome.
