Toshiba L450 Laptop - Warning

Just brought a batch of these and they have a VERY strange issue I thought id post to warn you about.

 

If you stack the laptops ontop of an identical laptop, as is often the case in our jobs when prepping new laptops.. they will not power on. If you lift the laptop up or move it an inch forward back left or right it works!

 

Once you power the unit, and then place it back square ontop of a laptop, the backlight will go off, until you lift it.. or move it. Simple fix is don't stack Toshiba L450 Laptops!!

 

Completely random problem, Must be some kind of interference!?!

Could it be something to do with a screen-position switch being pressed (or over-pressed)? I'm talking about the little push-switches that usually sit near the hinge and tell the machine whether it's open or closed. The backlight going off made me wonder whether the laptop thinks it's closed.

Have you got a picture to show how you mean by them being 'stacked'? It's an intriguing one!

so that when the top one (open) is put onto a closed one the screen turns off on the top one screen turns off.

 

Havn't got a clue why it would do it tho enless there is something it emits which causes it to do it!

Think you've cracked it!

 

Very strange, but it looks like the 'close lid sensor' from the laptop below is causing the top one to think its closed. Not an issue for teachers just a strange one for us techies when short of desk space
