Crispin Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Outlook appears to be broken Whenever connecting a mobile device I'm given this error: "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client." I've tried: 1. Deleting the Reg key under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Microsoft Outlook 2. Deleting msmapi32.dll in the common files folder and letting outlook recreate it on startup. Neither worked. I'm running Win 7 x64 with the RTM release of Office. I'm not alone on this either, there are many blog posts with the same issue. It's even managed to wipe all my contacts from both my phones! Anyone managed to get it working? Cheers
Crispin Posted May 11, 2010 Author Posted May 11, 2010 After searching technet I found this: "“Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) synchronization WMDC does not synchronize with Microsoft Outlook 2010 if you use the 64-bit version of Outlook 2010. In such cases, an error message displays that states that there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging. WMDC synchronizes correctly with the 32-bit version of Outlook 2010. To synchronize a Windows Phone with Outlook 2010 by using Windows Mobile Device Center, uninstall Outlook 2010 64-bit. Then use the original installer that you used to obtain Outlook 2010 64-bit to install Outlook 2010 32-bit. Outlook 2010 32-bit is the default option.” Source: 64-bit editions of Office 2010
