glennda Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Does anybody know which ports i need to open so i can connect from my Home pc to my work pc through explorer e.g \\myipaddress\C$ as currently i only have the remote desktop port open (3389).
robk Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 If you are connecting over the internet I would not suggest opening the smb/lanman ports for security reasons. As you already have 3389 open you could enable access to local drives on your home machine and copy data that way. (Assuming this has not been disabled on the work machine).
glennda Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 I forgot to mention its via our LEA's VPN but i have an ISA which does NAT but only has the RDP port open atm.
User3204 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 When you RDP before you connect there is an [OPTIONS] button, and then click the "Local Resources" tab, click the [MORE] and you can take you local drives to the server. It tunnels through the normal 3389 port.
localzuk Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Direct hosting of SMB over TCP/IP and Service overview and network port requirements for the Windows Server system have some details. I think you need all the ports in the first article, plus port 445 for SMB.
glennda Posted May 11, 2010 Author Posted May 11, 2010 cheers thats what i needed to know - I did think about using the RDP connection but last time i did use that it seemed really slow - not sure why!
