joematt Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Hi, We have been seeing this error on quite a few computer's across our network in the past year. Product: Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional -- Error 1325.reception$ is not a valid short file name. This prevents any software from being installed or removed so in most cases Sophos will be prevented from updating. The weird thing is that the window logon box changes to "classic" mode rather than the smoother looking one of the xp theme's. We used to use policy maker but since M$ purchased it they stopped updating it so windows updates began to break it so we had to remove it but some of the policies are lingering on the pc's. I have spent alot of time going through the registry and looking at the windows installer to see if there is anything amiss but I haven't had any luck. There are alot of these event's happening where its calling for the policy maker dll's but even reinstalling policy maker does help. Windows cannot query DllName registry entry for {F6E72D5A-6ED3-43D9-9710-4440455F6934} and it will not be loaded. This is most likely caused by a faulty registration. Any advice or ideas would be much appreciated. joe
joematt Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 Now resolved!! Basically it was a custom adm policy we use to redirect the favorites back into user's network folders. It has tatooed the registry for the system account somehow, possibly if the machine was powered off and the policy wasn't removed correctly. Credit to sophos who were very helpful and were the ones who noticed the abnormality in the sophos log files which I sent over to them. See a portion of the log file below: MSI (s) (E4:E8) [11:51:43:628]: SHELL32::SHGetFolderPath returned: C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Application Data MSI (s) (E4:E8) [11:51:43:628]: SHELL32::SHGetFolderPath returned: \\clsb-file02\1stsHome$\W3-22$\Favorites MSI (s) (E4:E8) [11:51:43:628]: SHELL32::SHGetFolderPath returned: C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\NetHood MSI (s) (E4:E8) [11:51:43:647]: SHELL32::SHGetFolderPath returned: C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\My Documents W3-22 is the computer name. I'm not going to waste much time in trying to rectify the issue but atleast I know why! But I intend to rebuild most of the 400 or so pc's during summer. Oh and remove that favorites policy. Another good reason to migrate to 2008 R2 which supports favorites redirection natively.
