garethEds Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Received this email today. It might be of interest to people here: Hi, dear deployment geek. In January I teamed up with my good friend - and fellow Microsoft Setup & Deployment MVP - Mikael Nystrom, to write a book on Windows Deployment using MDT 2010 Lite Touch and WDS… Now, four months later, we are finally done. I’m very proud to announce the availability of the first real world book on deploying Windows 7 (and Windows XP) using MDT 2010 Lite Touch and WDS. The book covers end to end deployment, inventory, applications (even ugly ones), real drivers, real hardware, real problems, real network environments and of course, real world solutions. Deployment Fundamentals – Volume 1: Deploying Windows clients using MDT 2010 Lite Touch http://www.amazon.com/Deployment-Fundamentals-Deploying-Windows-clients/dp/1451570031 Regards / Johan Arwidmark Microsoft MVP – Setup & Deployment I've not ordered it yet - but has anyone else seen it? Cheers Gareth 1
mjs_mjs Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 It's not on the UK Amazon - that link is broken btw. I'm interested in buying it once I've done my MCTS in win 7 config.
Arthur Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 that link is broken btw This link should work: http://amzn.com/1451570031. I think I might get a copy once it appears on Amazon.co.uk. It looks like it could be really useful. By the way, have you seen this free eBook from Microsoft since it covers MDT 2010 too?
garethEds Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 It's not on the UK Amazon - that link is broken btw. I'm interested in buying it once I've done my MCTS in win 7 config. The link works fine for me here. Gareth
garethEds Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 This link should work: Amazon.com: Deployment Fundamentals: Deploying Windows clients using MDT 2010 Lite Touch (Volume 1) (9781451570038): Johan Arwidmark, Mikael Nyström: Books. I think I might get a copy once it appears on Amazon.co.uk. It looks like it could be really useful. By the way, have you seen this free eBook from Microsoft since it covers MDT 2010 too? Yes I've seen this. I've asked Computer Manuals to see if they can get the book into the UK. Gareth
Arthur Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 The link works fine for me here. Your Amazon link doesn't work for me either. I think it's because it is prefixed with this: https://swansea-edunet.gov.uk/OWA/redir.aspx?C=40c4042271c840ad9e2fc91273490e6f&URL=. Let us know how you get on with Computer Manuals.
plexer Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I got the email as well as I had signed up for his deployment cd before. Interested in getting it and may look at ordering it from the states if possible. Ben
garethEds Posted May 6, 2010 Author Posted May 6, 2010 I send an email to Johan the author and here is the reply: Hi Gareth, Currently it's only available via Amazon... / Johan Here is the reply from Computer Manuals: Hi, Im afraid we don't sell this item. Best Wishes GJE 1
garethEds Posted May 6, 2010 Author Posted May 6, 2010 Well I've ordered from Amazon US. 8 - 12 days delivery. GJE
sidewinder Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Hmm...wonder if its likely to ever make it to the UK or if its worth ordering from the US Would be a great book to have. After 3 days of struggle and conflicting information on the net, I've got some of MDT and Lite Touch working howe I want, but its not perfect yet
garethEds Posted May 6, 2010 Author Posted May 6, 2010 Well I've ordered it from Amazon so people are welcome to hold off until it arrives here and I will review it for you all before you waste your hard earned cash. GJE 2
Soulfish Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Well I've ordered it from Amazon so people are welcome to hold off until it arrives here and I will review it for you all before you waste your hard earned cash. GJE I was also looking at getting this, but I'll hold off until after you've got your copy
garethEds Posted May 9, 2010 Author Posted May 9, 2010 Amazon sent this on Friday so it should hopefully arrive from the US sometime this week. On another note, I notice I posted this to the Windows 7 forum instead of the Deployment Forum - perhaps it would be better moved into there. Gareth
Arthur Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Like Gareth I ordered a copy from Amazon.com last Friday and received it in the post this morning. From the very brief look I have had, it looks great so far. The step-by-step instructions are very easy to follow and things are explained really well. The main reason I purchased it was the chapter on deploying Windows XP using MDT 2010 and how to use VMware Workstation to create WIM images. Almost everything I have learnt so far about MDT has been via trial-and-error so it will be good to know the correct way to do things.
garethEds Posted May 15, 2010 Author Posted May 15, 2010 Mine arrived today. Looking forward to reading it tomorrow. GJE
