NotVeryPC Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Has anyone setup "The Cylinder of Destiny" with Snow Leopard?? I've add all the necessary attributes to my augmented user to get an AFP home folder but when I run the createhomedir command, nothing happens.
HodgeHi Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Have you looked at this? AFP548 - Record Augmentation - Part 1 - The Cylinder of Destiny can you confirm that you can see the augments using the DSCL command. In all honesty I tried to get the IMHandle one working before but couldn't get it working so I left it and never went back to it. If you are successful perhaps you could post a write up on just how you did it. Would love to see an example working. Unlike mine Also I'm not sure that the createhomedir command works against AD users. Unsure as to whether the augment will make this work. If I understand correctly the augments only come into play when a user is logging in. As you would probably be using the creahomedir on the OD server I don't think the records would be merged together. If you are trying to created the Home dirs for AD users, i found the best way was to extract the user list using the DSCL command in terminal. Then using this list to script the creation process. The only downside to this is you can't query the groups and get a list of users inside those groups. Unfortunately it's all at once or nothing. Hope this helps.
NotVeryPC Posted April 26, 2010 Author Posted April 26, 2010 Thanks for the reply. After a lot of head scratching I found that my server had lost it's connection with the Active Directory. After binding the server to the AD again I was still unable to create a home directory using the "createhomedir" command but when I logged on to a client as my augmented user the home directory was created on my AFP server!! HAPPY DAYS!!
HodgeHi Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 You've just spurred me on to re-look at what i was going to do before. Is it possible you could PM an example of how you created your augmented record?
NotVeryPC Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 Sorry I've only just seen your reply.. I'm just writing up how I got the augmented users working. Once it's finished I'll PM you the details. 1
Marci Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Can you add me to the cc list on that PM too please fella?!
NotVeryPC Posted May 4, 2010 Author Posted May 4, 2010 Will do... Just having an issue the auto-magically creating the the users. I've been looking at Bombich's script (Bombich.com: Mac OS X Management Custom Shell Script Library) but I'm struggling to get it to run
NotVeryPC Posted June 12, 2010 Author Posted June 12, 2010 I've finally got eound to writing down some notes on creating Augmented Users. I've put it on my site Link it's mainly written to remind me how to do it!!
dondawg Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 NotVeryPC. Do you still have your notes on creating Augmented Users? The link you supply above is dead. Thanks!
NotVeryPC Posted July 4, 2011 Author Posted July 4, 2011 After ditching Augmented Users 12 months ago it's now back on the cards... Unfortunately even with my notes from 12 months ago I can't get the xml file to work correctly in the latest Snow Leopard release.. Is anyone else using Augmented Users??
