moving shares and folder while keeping permissions

hi

 

i have to recreate one of our san luns. It contains all users docs and profiles. What i need to do it move the data some were temp while i recreate a new lun for it and the move it on the new lun on the smae server while keeping all ntfs permissons and shares.

 

whats the best way of doing this?

robocopy you can tell it to keep all the permissions etc (i think the GUI has to be downloaded seperately, or you can use it command line, been ages since i last used it)

backup then restore is the method i tend to use - its pretty simple to do and works

Vote 2 for robocopy. Copied over 300Gb of a shared area across to a new server whilst retaining permissions.
