Tony_Mc Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Good morning, On a mac network I work on, there is an issue where as all the Macs are shutting down after 45 mins. I can't for the life of me work out where it is coming from, I have checked power saving and in there we have a 45min shutdown, I change it but when the clients restart it reverts back to 45 mins. any ideas?! Tony
richardp Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Hi, by shutting down do you mean logging out and returning to the login prompt? Going to sleep or actually powering off completely (not sleeping or hibernating)? Have you checked the Security option in system preferences, in there you can set a log out after X number of minutes of inactivity. Also do you have a mac server managing your macs? If so then it may be set on the server so no matter what you do on the client mac it will revert back to what the server has set as it is supposed to do? Richard 1
Tony_Mc Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 Hi Richard I found this out just before seeing your message. It was in the "account" settings, log off after 45mins. Thanks Tony

Tony_Mc Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 Hi Sorry for my lack of info. workgroup manager>computer groups>Preferences>login>options> "log user out after" was set to 45m, changed to 240 mins. That's where! Regards Tony

Out of interest, were the machines shutting down even if someone was using them, or were they idle? I seem to recall seeing a setting hidden somewhere which allows you to set a power down time, i.e. 8pm so you can be assured none will be left on 24/7
Tony_Mc Posted April 22, 2010 Author Posted April 22, 2010 Hi The machines were logging off during lessons, not shutting down lke I had been told.... good old accurate reporting... There is a setting in Remote Desktop which lets you shut down Macs on a schedule with two options one that asks the user to save work or cancel shutdown (or something like that) and the other option will just shut down the machine with no choice. does that help at all? Tony
