albertwt Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 How to effectively limit the download speed of the WSUS update using BITS for my Server connection to the internet only? (Windows Server 2003 Std. R2 SP2 x64) Because according to: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc720428(WS.10).aspx we have to configure it from the Group Policy Object. So if I do it from my GPO which is attached into my “Active Workstations OU”. It will only throttling down the download from my internal LAN WSUS server which is no need to be throttled down.
powdarrmonkey Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I don't believe you can. Set your synchronisation time to the middle of the night or over the weekend when it doesn't matter if the connection is saturated anyway.
albertwt Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 yes that's what I'm thinking now. The article does give a background idea of how BITS operates but it doesn't say anything or where to config to actually set the throttling speed ? If i set it up on the local GPO of WSUS server, i could not see the "Network Connections" under Administrative Template ?
rvdmast Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I think if you use wsus you're not supposed to apply this policy to your workstations, but to your (WSUS)server(s) I assume your servers are in a different OU than your workstations, so create these settings in a GPO that's linked to your servers OU. 1
albertwt Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 yes that does make sense mate, thanks for the suggestion. Cheers, AWT
