E-Sata connection

Ok, i am getting confused with this, I am planning a computer build and the case i have chosen has an e-sata port on the front, how does this connect to the motherboard?

Typically it will have a lead going from said port which you'd plug into any SATA port on the mainboard. If there is no lead, does it have a sata type connection behind it? If so it'll probably just require a standard SATA lead to connect, although I'd be worried about the quality of the case if that's true.

So you can connect the front e-sata port to a standard Sata connection on the motherboard? from what i have been reading i thought it needed to be connected to an e-sata port.

I always thought it was a normal sata connection as you can get an E sata bracket for the ( at least ) 2008 mac pro and it has 2 cables going from the back of the bracket and connects to the 2 onboard sata connectors on the logic board / motherboard

I have a bracket on my work PC with 2 e-sata connectors and a power. The e-sata cables are molded to the bracket but are just standard sata connectors on the end.

Although the pin outs are the same, the physical apperance of a proper E-SATA plug is different. I've seen a lot of cases sold with just a standard SATA plug as an E-SATA plug, which isn't a big deal, as you can buy SATA-E-SATA cables, but it's not strictly speaking correct.
