  3. So you can connect the front e-sata port to a standard Sata connection on the motherboard? from what i have been reading i thought it needed to be connected to an e-sata port.
  4. Ok, i am getting confused with this, I am planning a computer build and the case i have chosen has an e-sata port on the front, how does this connect to the motherboard?
  5. ok, following most of the comments i have changed some of the components, i have also added prices and a budget set. Anything else that looks drastically out of date or just bad in itself?
  6. Ok, i am building a computer for my friend, and so I have drawn up the following components for the computer, i was wondering if these parts are any good and whether they can be put together so then they form a computer that can do anything from going on the internet to playing games like Sims 3 (and others). Also if the components are out dated and not worth the money. BX80580Q8300 -- Intel Core 2 Quad (Q8300) 2.5GHz Processor -- £100.51 GA-EP31-DS3L -- Gigabyte EP31-DS3L 775 ATX -- £43.06 KVR667D2N5/1G -- 1GB DDR2-667 CL5 Non ECC (2)--£17.04 (£34.08) PV-T95G-YAR2 -- XFX GeForce (with CUDA) 9500 GT 512MB -- £40.20 0761345-02000-8 -- Antec computer case -- £28.65 BP500U GB -- Antec BP500U 500 Watt Power Supply Unit -- £40.87 STM3160813AS -- MAXTOR DIAMONDMAX22 160GB SATA (Seagate) -- £26.17 AD7240S-0B -- DVD+-R/RW/DL AD-7240S-0B SATA -- £15.41 Overall total = £328.96 Budget = £350 My friend hasn't specified an operating system yet, most probably Win7 EDIT>>All items in Bold is changes. 8. what are some of the best brands for power units?
  9. would i be able to calculate the power unit i need by the power required for each component?
  10. You sure that 400 will be enough power? if so then please could someone tell me how i calculate the power needed
  11. Well not exactly high demanding software more like game simulators like flight sim, and 2 operating systems as i understand you cannot open .exe files on linux which many programmes i am wanting to put on need to use.
  12. the ram is going to be two of them to have 2gb, then the OS is going to be both XP and Ubuntu 9.04
  13. lol, ok i will put the full things up, i just thought it would be easier when searching in a search engine what they are as then you know you get the right ones but anyway, PENTIUM DUAL CORE E6300 2.8GHZ SKT775 FSB1066 2MB CACHE BOXED IN , Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3L Motherboard Core 2 Extreme Socket 775 Intel P31 ATX Gigabit LAN, 1024MB 667MHZ DDR2 DIMM CL5 NON-ECC, GeForce9400GT/PCI-Express x16 with 512MB 128-bit DDR2 2xDVI-I and HD-TV Out, NSK-4000II-EU IN (pc case), OCZ Fatal1ty Series 550W PSU - UK, HD Int Cuda 5900.12 3,5" 1000GB/SATA/32MB , SAMSUNG BULK INTERNAL 22x DVDRW SATA
  14. I am building a computer for my father who wants something which is just used for basic things with a few things that can handle high demanding software, so i sorted out all these components on a compatability pc builder but to make sure it is all ok i want to ask you all to say if things wont be compatible with each other, below are the product codes of the items: BX80571E6300 GA-EP31-DS3L KVR667D2N5/1G GM9400GN2E50X-SB 0761345-00401-5 OCZ550FTY-UK ST31000520AS SH-S223B/BEBE Thanks in advance
  15. ok, thanks very much, very useful help and it has made it not so confusing.
  16. hmmm, i was looking at that and i found the cheaper version is this still quite good or no? >>> On the set up guide it shows it being connected to a computer, is that through an Ethernet connection? As my computer doesnt recognise the ethernet card for some reason. Also as it is connected does it mean i have to keep the computer on for the wireless to work? seeing as my computer also have cooling issues.
  17. ok, i have an ADSL connection with Utility Warehouse. The computer is an XP. so what type of connection would be best if not the USB dongle? EDIT>> Provider name
  18. Ok, i am wanting to set up a wireless network for my home, it will include 2 laptops and an old computer. I really dont have a clue what type of wireless i should get but i did a bit of research and i think i need a wireless router, it's the one where the modem connects into it and it sends out the information? please correct me if i am wrong. I need to know how i would connect it up as my computer doesnt have and wireless network card or ethernet but just USB connection. Meanwhile the two laptops both have wireless connectivity. What i am wanting to know is what type of router would be best and how to connect it all.
  19. in yr 11 there are many science tests and none of those are multiple choice.
  20. Well at the moment i am doing science GCSE and yes it is as easy as that, they have made it easier by adding questions based on the new part of education of "how science works" it gives us soemthing to make sense of, it may seem easy now but they don't actually use proper grammar in the questions. Also in year 10 there are two tests for science (on each chem, bio and phy) and they are both multiple choice (all questions multiple choice)
  21. Thanks, i had a look at that and it says about opening the middle bit under the screen to get off the keyboard, anybody know how to do that as i cannot figure it out at the moment.
  22. Well i am currently trying to fix my sisters laptop of this type and i was wonderinghow the heck you get into it? i took out all the screws but its not coming away. (same thing happened as said above, sister dropped it with power thing still in and the bit broke and went inside)
