IE8 Policy

I'm struggling to find some settings in GP for IE8

 

How do I turn off suggested sites?

How do I remove on the "Page" menu the section that is translate with windows live etc

 

Also get this error:

 

When the home page loads it says "A program has corrupted your default search provider set for IE". I have removed the search bar at the top so the pupils have to use the link to Google via the Intranet.

I would attach a spreadsheet I downloaded from Microsoft that lists all the GP settings for IE8 and below. Bit of a slog to trawl through but you can filter it with Excel data filters. However, I'm struggling to get the attachments part of this wizzy new website to work!! So here is the web address for the download:

It is in Excel 2007 format. I'd saved it in the .xls format to attach.

 

I have been getting the same error message about a corrupted default search provider. Thought it was something I'd done, but now suspect not. Maybe need to Google the error....

Still can't add an attachment but I gather the Edugeek staff are working on the issue so I'll just have to be patient.

 

I googled the corrupted default search provider issue and it does seem to be a known fault, but one that Microsoft seem to be ignoring. Lots of stuff on the Microsoft forums from months ago, with suggestions for fixes from various folk, mostly registry edits, and most of them seeming to work for some and not for others.

Sorry to thread-jack but in my IE policy I've set it to go to home page when you open a new tab. In practice IE then ignore's this setting and goes to the new tab page. Anyone else had this problem?

I would say, use Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) 8. It allows you do create customised IE .msi/.exe packages, as well as allowing you to do on-going configuration/maintenance after deployment.
