Just A Word Of Warning: HDD SATA Power Connection

Recommended Posts

Posted

I had to remove a SATA hard disk today and put it in another machine.

No problem: Go to machine 'A' Remove data and power cables. Go to machine 'B' attach cables. Fine except the power cable will not stay in place on the connector [HDD end not motherboard end]

On closer inspection the slim board which sits over the pins had broken off and was still in the housing of the cable head. We did get the hard disk to work after straightening one of the pins that I had bent out of place. In my defence I had not expected the board to break away in the way that it did.

Make/Model of HDD: Hitachi Deskstar.

So as I said just a word of warning as I have never had this happen before and hope it never happens again.

In future I will try to remember to check connectors/pins each time I perform this little operation with SATAs.
