timbo343 Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 After getting the computer to add to the domain and ask for a computer name at system setup, i have now got another problem. I am trying to get OEM drivers to install when sysprep runs. In XP you could set the OEMPNPDRIVER path for all the drivers on the system so we could roll out any image to any PC and it would just work, but this is not the case in Win 7 or so it seems. Has anyone else managed to install OEM drivers via an XML file? I have tried putting the path into the Windows PE area but if i do that it will not join the domain. Thanks Tim
jsnetman Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Are you running WDS server 2008 R2, if so you can deploy driver packages from the WDS console. If not you can use this Setting up Windows Deployment Services – Injecting drivers into Windows 7 and WIndows 2008R2 - J to do it at image level. I tried it via the xnl file and it did not work for me either.
timbo343 Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 nah, im not using WDS, in fact ive never had any experience of WDS.
timbo343 Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 (edited) can i just ask, from the link above.. Setting up Windows Deployment Services – Injecting drivers into Windows 7 and WIndows 2008R2 - J... where is the "system variables path" variable? Edited April 13, 2010 by timbo343
jsnetman Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I did not need to do that. After you install AIK it puts a program group in your start menu with a command prompt, all the commands are available through that.

You are best off deploying system variables using Group Policy Client Side Extensions. Psy
Ric_ Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 @tibo343: If you really cannot justify the expense of SCCM, you may want to look into using MDT. You can get basic task sequencing and driver package installation without any cost and it may ease your difficulties.
timbo343 Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 Ric... i may have to look into it, i found a way to get round not using it for renaming but this may not be a get out.
