Theblacksheep Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Yeah, yeah, yeah I know.... lots of people saying no one uses OtherOS, who cares and its slow. Despite the above I quite like the OtherOS feature and I was a little miffed when Sony said they will remove it with the introduction of mandatory "update" 3.21. You can update to 3.21 or face not signing into PSN. However with a little help from LG5tool.exe you can bypass the firmware update and still sign in to PSN. I'm currently signed in to PSN with firmware 3.15. Heres some info: How to Bypass PS3 Firmware 3.21 and Connect to PSN
ZeroHour Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 awsome work man! I do use the other OS (YDL) although not often and am pretty ticked at sony for removing it.
EduTech Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Great Stuff! likewise i do use it and was pretty miffed at the removing it. Thanks.
computer_expert Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 I've been trying to use the Linux guide from here, but it downloads the file ok (no 404 errors like i was having) and still won't sign into the PSN. Anyone have any ideas? While searching for other methods of bypassing the check, i found this which made me laugh: 3.21 remove other os 3.30 remove ps2 support from bc models due to security risk 3.35 removed avi mp4 playback from the ps3 due to copyright concerns 3.40 removed ps1 support due to security risk 3.55 removed web browser from the xmb due to security risk 3.60 removed media server due to security risk 3.70 fixed a bug in photos that could allow remote browsing in the ps3
Theblacksheep Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 The LG5tool has been a bit buggy, I have to restart it lots. However you can setup your own DNS/web server to trick the PS3 and sign into PSN. Not done this myself yet, still using LG5. Not recommended to use the primary DNS address floating around. Does work but may expose PSN passwords and web traffic, especially if the encryption is cracked.
computer_expert Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 finally managed to do it - the apache logs indicated that my ps3 looked for a update/ps3/list/uk/ directory (which gave 404 errors as it didn't exist), so i created it and copied the text file over but it still gave errors. Since using the info in this post, it's been fine. I used my debian lenny server (running in a VM) to act as the DNS\web server to serve the modified files to my PS3 and allow it to sign in to PSN
Theblacksheep Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 Sony have blocked all non 3.21 FWs connecting to PSN now. I couldn't do it to the old girl (Japanese release PS3), she staying complete with 3.15 and I have purchased a slim which can be kept upto date. The slim looks like a cheap Chinese knock off (I know they are made in China anyway!), no SACD, no PS2 games, no otherOS, no touch sensitive buttons and its down 2 USB ports. Ironically it was more expensive too.
computer_expert Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 thats a shame - no more otheros support for me then i noticed that i couldn't sign in yesterday and thought i'd been banned from PSN
