soveryapt Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Hi Guys Right, preparing for my daunting task of the Easter Holidays (see http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-server-2000-2003/53238-w2003-r2-ive-come-conclusion.html) and I'm setting up a FOG Server to help with the load of the image deployment bit, and I'm in the test phase to make sure that the images will upload and deploy, but I'm getting the following: Unable to start task Unable to located master node from storage group. Now, I'll briefly explain where I'm up to and how I've got there so that fingers crossed, someone might know what I've done wrong! ) I've followed the instructions for installing FOG from FOG Server Install (Free Opensource Ghost) - Spiceworks Community. The versions included in my particular install are: Ubuntu 9.10 FOG 0.28 I've followed the instructions to the letter on that page. In Section 2 in the Spiceworks walk-thru, I did change the password for the MySQL as suggested and set it in the config.php files as pointed out. The DHCP is all set up fine and the computers find and register themselves (I've got the FOG Service installed on a couple of different machines for testing purposes). So, I've created the image file (Section 5) and assigned the image to a host (Section 6) but it's when I get to Section 7 - Upload and Image - that I'm having the problem. I log into FOG Management and click the Star to get to the tasks, I click List All Hosts, choose the correct host, click Upload, accept all the defaults to ensure it runs straight away (or that is the plan) and then I get the error that I quoted above. So, I can't get the image to upload from my machine to the FOG Server.. HELP!!!! please .. Anyone any suggestions, or need more info to help? Cheers guys Andy

Andy Hi Andy, I know this might be a little late, but I had the same problems and I thought I would share how I fixed them, since this is the top hit in Google. First off, in the image screen you need to make sure that you select a storage group. If you don't, then the error appears... It also seems that it works the best when you fill in image title, then pick the storage group. As far as the ftp upload, make sure that the fog password in the About->Fog Settings is correct. The place it is used is at: FOG_TFTP_FTP_PASSWORD. I hope this helps. This fixed both of my problems.

I'm using WDS now as I upgraded the servers to 2008R2 and machines to W7 so it's easy enough to make use of. Thanks for the reply though. If I get chance, I will double check all that at some point and make sure I didn't miss any, but all those settings seemed to be in place. Cheers Andy
Cools Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 never followed a walk-thru: reinstall BUT watch the videos from fog website on how to set-up and install...
