ahuxham Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Civil servants and axed IT to pay for Tory tax cut - contains video As the article shows, major IT projects and jobs will be axed in order to fund the country should they come to power. Bit disheartening, more job loses for more people
PiqueABoo Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 An intruiging comment someone added to that article led me to British IT workers 'crowded out' and the examples are government projects. Otherwise 'big does not work' and big IT projects have proved that time and again. Some, obviously that big NHS IT one, shouldn't have been started, not least because shutting them down can be expensive too i.e. some of these savings might be deceptive.
srochford Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 "Mr Osborne refused to set out which IT projects this would mean." Classic politician - "we're going to save money by scrapping waste but we're not going to tell you where that waste is because you might check our figures" I'd guess we have to just trust him. After all, politicians never lie, do they :-)
PiqueABoo Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 There will clearly be some unpopular cuts regardless, and neither side wants to trigger that unpopularity by getting too specific about targets until *after* they've been elected. Because of that I'm expecting a few weeks of bickering claims and counter-claims about what the other side really intends to cut, or has that already started (I don't do the news much)?
sandeep2504 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Have you guys seen some of these projects? This is a blog covers a lot of goverment projects and their failures: Tony Collins's IT Projects Blog the decision making by the IT Consultants shocking and defies belief.
