Corel Draw x4 BSOD when run install

We have corel draw x4 and when i try to install it i get a BSOD every time

 

i have tried on different brands of pcs and i get the same problem

 

Anyone else had this problem?

 

i am going to download the trial version and put my key in to activate but im wondering if it migt be duff media?

setup.exe /a allows the setup to run

 

i will make a server image and try and deploy it.

random crashes

 

does anyone have any fixes for this program i have installed corels service packs

 

i cant even uninstall the thing

 

it gives me bsod

Ok fixed the program from crashing on startup using the following

 

Open the folder C:\Program Files\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4\Programs\UIConfig\CorelDRAW

Edit DrawUI.xml

Find the line

 

Change visible="false" and remove selected="true"

Save and close DrawUI.xml

Fold down F8 and restart CorelDRAW X4

When prompted to update settings, select yes

 

getting a bit further with it.

 

Now when a pupil uses the softwrare the C.A.R.M recover always kicks in when they try to save a file

 

corels advice is let the users be administrators. Errrrr No

 

I have given them write access to the Corel draw folder in c:\program files blah blah

 

has anyone got round this do they need to write to the registry or something else. i am stumpped.

I have corel x4 installed (by hand as attempting to deploy this software made my butt clench) on 34 machines all pupils are restricted users (not admins). My pupils don't have profiles if that changes anything. I noticed that corelx4 wants to create a cpl file in the users profile (if you have one) and security restrictions will see that as an exe.

 

I also believe (don't know for sure) that corel (like most adobe products) installs macrovision protection that runs from the track 0 on your harddrive. if you had another program that does something similar they would conflict with each other.

 

anyhow I installed the software by hand and as part of that install disabled the automatic updates. The software works fine.

Our system runs on mandatory profiles locked down for the pupils

 

i will check the file filters to see if cpl files are banned for the pupils

 

a few more questions

 

I have a temp folder on c:\temp the pupils have access to write to this folder for another piece of rubbish software does anyone know how i could point the program to use this folder for temp files etc.

 

also does anyone know if corel x4 licencess cover the use of corel draw 8?

cpl files was set to be banned for students

 

just spoke to corel who said without a shadow of a doubt that our machines are at fault.

 

just run winaudit freeware piece of software for them and sent the logs to them

 

I will post any findings.

to get the created admin package to run i had to do the following

 

%windir%\system32\regsvr32.exe %windir%\system32\msxml2.dll

 

%windir%\system32\regsvr32.exe %windir%\system32\msxml3.dll

 

this reregistered the dlls and the setup was happy

 

to stop the random crashes

the saving problem was fixed by

 

The gpo for recently opened files was causing x4 to crash

a days work down the drain for this rubbish
