Hi,

I need a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium (x32 and x64) for Dell laptop.

Laptop has arrived without OS DVD but COA for W7HP is underneath the battery.

My home copy W7HP box does not work with the serial from Dell COA - any ideas why?

Thanks.

It will usually be becuase the COA is a "DELL" copy of Windows, as vendors will buy a large number of OEM copies and these copies are given a vendor code which usually will work on any COA but it looks like yours is one of the ones that doesn't.

I would give DELL a call, that is unless you were supposed to make the disc yourself, which is becoming more common with OEM machines?

tommccann I will give it a go tonight.

Anyway is anybody here willing to spare Dell copy of W7HP?

I will cover the cost of DVD and postage and pint in the pub! :)

By buying hardware with genuine COA I am the legal user of the OS specified on the COA - I can use Acronis to image it without breaking The Law can I?

I am keeping images of our servers (including OS) on NAS - should I ring my lawyer now?

Loosing media with OS does not change the fact that I am eligible to use the OS with S/N from the COA.

Is the World upside down or my thinking is too logical... :o

P.S.

Is transferring your own music from genuine CD's to the mp3 player still a crime in the UK? :D
