Acceptable use Policy Software

We wish to set up a system where our Acceptable Usage POlicy is displayed to students when they log on. They will then have to agree to the policy before being able to continue. If they disagree, they will automatically be logged off.

 

Does anyone know of any freeware software, or any other method of achievening this?

You can also do this via GPO Computer configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options > Interactive logon: Message text for users attempting to logon.

Group Policy doesn't allow any scope to disagree, students will simply be offered whatever text or legal notice you have determined is appropriate and a "Ok" button.

 

By clicking on the "Ok" button the user is conventionally understood to have accepted the terms of use. IANAL but I am not aware of any legal challenge to this, successful or otherwise.

 

Since it's available for you for free, supported and well known within the IT industry I'd definetely suggest using Group Policy in preference to software from a company that as likely or not will offer support for a limited period (or may cease trading) and will almost certainly require money from you to fix future issues or for compatability with a new operating system (such as Windows 7).

 

Another potentially free alternative if you use a centrally configured background to your computers is use the legal notice as part of that image. LEA audit were entirely willing to accept that instead of the message box as the warning will always be visible to the user as they log in.

Present company excepted- but it's still something new to document and for someone else to learn if they come in to the school.

 

GP method is so widely used and known in industry most new staff are likely to be familiar and it'll be extremely widely supported by support contracts, other professionals and indeed Microsoft.
