Has anyone got Photostory 3 to work with Windows 7 (32)?

 

I know theres loads of posts around the web about it working on 64bit but not 32, or if you use the 3.1 version it works (but thats a 60 day trial) but I want to use it on W7 Pro 32bit as its very popular here. Some posts even say that MS changed the compatibility lists and it now installs normally, but on my fully updated install it doesn't work.

 

And the same applies for Movie Maker (the version that shipped with XP), why MS decided you have to use the frankly kak 'Live' version instead of the classic versions is beyond me - copying the Movie Maker folder from and existing XP install seems to be working, but its a bit of a botch to get it working.

for movie maker do a search on movie maker 2.6 seems to work fine (it was removed iirc due to eu etc regulations on monopoly but apple are still allowed imovie and esp i tunes which does have a virtual monopoly).

 

Ive only tried on 64 bit i made the decision ANY win 7 deployment will be 64 bit from day one i dont want a mixed 32/64 bit enviornment

 

the photostory version i have again works on x64 if it helps i can zip and e-mail it its only 5mb

Please check your facts. Windows Movie Maker 2.6 is the last version of the program to be made. It was dropped in favour of the program 'Windows Live Movie Maker'. The EU was not involved at all...

i thought that was why it as no longer bundled with windows hence why ms have gone with the live cut down version

Nope, that is why Windows is sold with the 'N' version in the EU - to have a version available at the same price without Windows Media Player, not Windows Movie Maker.

I downloaded the 2.6 version and it doesn't install as it drops out with a message saying it is only suitable for vista (when tried on a W7 Pro 32bit)

 

As for Photostory - why make this incompatible? It was a useful tool, especially in schools and they've started to use it a lot here.

how are you installing it i just fired it out as part of a gpo

 

might be worth rebuilding a pc as x64 anyway im not sure there are many reasons to run x86 win7

There is a version of 2.6 that will run on Windows 7.

 

"Movie Maker 2.6 is for Windows Vista users whose computer cannot run the Vista version of Movie Maker."

Yes thats the version I downloaded.

 

Running the installer on my W7 (32bit) comes up with the error that it is designed for use on Vista and the installer drops out.
