tech_guy Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Hairy forearms - bad for a tattoo? Bizarre question, I know. Will it look 'smudged' as the hair follicles are quite pronounced on the outside of the forearms. It's only going to be a small tattoo - covering an area about 4cm x 1cm.

It will give the effect that it is smudged and blurry if you are talking extremely hairy.
Hightower Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 They shave the area before they tattoo it Yes, and what happens when the hair grows back? Unless he keeps shaving it!
tech_guy Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 Yes, I was going to shave the area myself before-hand but was wondering how it's going to look when the hair grows back? I can pass for a Yeti, to give an idea of general hairyness...!
LosOjos Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 If you're that hairy that you wouldn't be able to see the tattoo anyway, I wouldn't bother...
cookie_monster Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 If you go to a reputable place they will tell you most are really very good they don't want their work to look rubbish you're a walking advert.
tech_guy Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 Why do you want a tattoo? It's a personal project - it wouldn't necessarily be for public display anyway.
cookie_monster Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Why do you want a tattoo? Strange question if he said he wanted a new car would you ask why?
Hightower Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 I can pass for a Yeti, to give an idea of general hairyness...! Dark hair would most definately make it look all kafuzzled. I would tattoo people with dark thick hair though, as I'm sure most tattoo parlours would too. Fair enough he would be a walking advert but if anyone got close enough to ask where he had it done, they'd also be close enough to see it was a good job.
Little-Miss Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 I can pass for a Yeti, to give an idea of general hairyness...! From now on, you shall be know as Chewie... 1
cookie_monster Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 From now on, you shall be know as Chewie... what an image
Domino Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Depends on the design too - if its an old school style image, the tattooist would most likely use a thick lining needle, to give it the chunky look http://mike.binrock.net/p/3399 whereas a more modern tattoo would likely have thinner lines and be harder to make out. ....sorry, had to be added
tech_guy Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 It's a number not a picture. Will that make a difference?
Domino Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 depends, it'll obviously still have a thickness Do you have a design? What kind of size are we talking?
tech_guy Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 6 digits, roman font, covering an area 6cm x 1cm.
mattx Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Been threatening to get one myself with my kids names on - nothing too fancy, just on my back shoulder so it's not on view........
tech_guy Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 It's one of the things on my 'Get it done before I peg it' list so I'm having it done in the Easter break.
mattx Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 It's one of the things on my 'Get it done before I peg it' list so I'm having it done in the Easter break. Right then, I'm going inform my poor suffering missus that if you can have one, I WANT one now. It's my Bday next week so maybe she may actually be nice to me for once....
LosOjos Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Be careful getting a tattoo done though, it can be very addictive! I currently have one pretty much filling my upper right arm, a smaller one at the top of my left arm and now I constantly look out for idea's of what to have done next...
Little-Miss Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 What are the numbers Tech Guy? 4 8 15 16 23 42 Dear god! Whats all that about!?
tech_guy Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 I'm only having the one done, too many can look a bit iffy although I love the Japanese stuff: http://davidavery.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/tiger-and-koi-japanese-tattoos.jpg Whereas this is totally naff: http://www.angelinafans.com/images/angelina_jolie_tattoo.jpg
Hightower Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Sleeves look good too. Wish I had the money to do it, and I can't do it myself for obvious reasons (how do you tattoo your right arm when you are right handed?)
