explorer open in same window & office startup install

Two things I haven't got around to re-doing!

 

1 a GPO for setting the explorer window to open in the same window by default. (or GPOP)

 

2 Stop the Office installer for my users (no roaming profiles).

 

(well my users profile path is blank they can't save stupid wallpapers and logins are quicker)

 

I used to have these fixed by having the default domain user do it, but this caused problems later and didn't work with Vista Machines.

Post your solution when you work this out. I know exactly the reg key that causes explorer to open a new window everytime, but ADM files can't do binary values, and REG files need admin rights which my users obviously don't have, so I've temporarily shoved it to the back of my mind and just given myself full admin rights so I don't have to deal with the stupid bloody thing.

 

How does the setting creep in in the first place? There's certainly no GPO telling it to behave that way, it's just decided to. So very annoying.

If you're not using roaming profiles you'll need to setup a test user with a profile, manually change the explorer behaviour in Tools > Folder Options, then run Office, then logoff. Now you need to copy this profile to each machine and overwrite the default profile.

 

Alternatively, make the profile mandatory and allocate it as a roaming profile to your users. They can all use the same profile.

Reg key taken from my registry is:

The relevant key is the Settings value, specifically the 02 in the third octet is same window which changes to 00 if it opens a new window (whilst other values stay the same - however they will represent something, so I'd check your own reg key and work with that).

well I used CSE with the registry settings, I used the registry wizard to copy from my local machine in the end. This didn't work however I can only assume that the settings in the default domain profile either take presidence or are applied afterwards!
