Internet Access - A fundamental Human Right?

We're considering living on a narrowboat!

 

I dream of living on a narrowboat. Been on them a lot in my life and enjoy every minute. Just a shame there's no canals near me!

The thing that strikes me about all of this is that when some high-up body decides that Internet access is actually a 'Human Right', how long will it take the Kids who have had their Internet access blocked in school (by us, IT Support, for doing things they shouldn't) to complain that we are 'Breaching their Human Rights' and taking it further???

The Grand Union Canal hooks up with the River Nene, via the Northampton Arm which runs right across the south of the town. That's plenty of waterway right on my doorstep Main obstacle with a narrowboat is finding a permanent mooring, knowing my luck we'll end up at Billing Aquadrome (which stinks... there's a BIG sewage plant up the road!).

Not sure that we need to get too worried about it - freedom of movement within a country is a "human right" but it's reasonable to deprive a citizen of that right when (eg) they break the law and go to jail.

 

Article 17 says "Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others."

 

This doesn't mean everyone WILL own a property, just that no-one should stop people from owning property.

 

The same sort of thing could be true for internet access; a government should not stop people from getting it (as happens in some parts of the world now) - it doesn't mean it has to be provided, it certainly doesn't mean it has to be free of charge.

How did you get away with saying that! This forum is mellowing some what (awaits the linch mob to jump me ). How can you compare interactive, instant, information at your finger tips with a propaganda box sitting in the corner?

 

A propaganda box that you have to pay the governement an annual license fee to use
