Bleeding Integris G2!

Hi all

 

Just a quickie. A lot of the schools that I support have been on G2 for a while, but only the admin staff in the office where using it, but now teachers need access in classes, for registers etc, as well as other stuff, now for Integris G2 to work properly you have to setup up IE. I have attached a Word doc to give you some idea, but I am sure most of you have already read this.

 

Now I dont fancy having to go round 100+ machines doing this over and over and over, you get the idea right, I'm a lazy git, so is there any way of implementing these changes all in one go and over the network?

What sort of setup do you have?

 

If using Server 2003/8 with AD;

 

Under "User Configuration" and

Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer

 

see setting

"Pop-up allow list"

 

"This policy setting allows you to manage a list of web sites that

will be allowed to open pop-up windows regardless of the Internet

Explorer process's Pop-Up Blocker settings. If you enable this

policy setting, you can enter a list of sites which will be allowed

to open pop-up windows regardless of user settings. Users will not

be able to view or edit this list of sites. Only the domain name is

allowed, so http://www.contoso.com is valid, but not http://www.contoso.com.

Wildcards are allowed, so *.contoso.com is also valid. If you

disable this policy setting, the list is deleted and users may not

create their own lists of sites. If this policy is not configured,

users will be able to view and edit their own lists of sites."

Under "User Configuration" and

Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer

 

see setting

"Turn off pop-up management"

 

"This policy setting allows you to manage pop-up management

functionality in Internet Explorer. If you enable this policy

setting, the Control Panel information relating to pop-up

management will be unavailable (grayed out) and all other pop-up

manager controls, notifications, and dialog boxes will not appear.

Pop-up windows will continue to function as they did in Windows XP

Service Pack 1 or earlier, although windows launched off screen

will continue to be re-positioned onscreen. If you disable or do

not configure this policy setting, the popup management feature

will be functional."

 

Otherwise you can just turn it on/off via the registry

 

How to configure the Pop-up Blocker by using registry key

To configure the full Pop-up Blocker

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_WEBOC_POPUPMANAGEMENT

Double-click Iexplore.exe

To turn off the full Pop-up Blocker, in the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK. Or to turn on the full Pop-up Blocker, in the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

To configure Pop-up Blocker per zone

Each number under either of the following registry subkeys represents the different zone:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones

For 1809 under each zone, a data value of 3 means that Pop-up Blocker is disabled. A data value of 0 means Pop-up Blocker is enabled.

Thanks guys, especially ba9ag, thats an amazing post. The schools I support have mostly Windows 2000 server with just the one having 2008. All workstations are XP, just a plain and simple vanilla network.

No luck guys, Windows 2000 server does not have a "Pop-up allow list" or a "Turn off pop-up management" setting

 

any other ideas?

P.S. is it possible to update active directory? seen this on the web but there is a charge for this service.

You could add the IE7 ADM files to your group policy and that should give you the popup blocker options:

Agree with Cache but not sure how this will work with IE8 and any future versions of IE.

 

Alternatively you could add the administrative template to your AD.

 

When you install new adm's you may get a couple of error messages, would recommend you back the server up before you start and may be worth updating service packs and hotfixes before you start.

 

Download the inetres.adm administrative template from

To install the adm to the server;

 

How to Load the Administrative Template (I can't remember if these are the EXACT instructions for Server 2000 but they should be pretty close).

 

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers.

2. Right-click the domain or the organizational unit that you want to configure, and then click Properties.

3. Click the Group Policy tab, click the Group Policy setting that you want to edit, and then click Edit.

4. Under either Computer Configuration or User Configuration, right-click Administrative Templates, and then click Add/Remove Templates.

5. Click Add, click the template that you want to add, and then click Open.

6. Click Close.

 

After you've installed the adm file, if you can't see the extra settings you've installed you'll need to open the GPO, right click on administrative templates, click view, then click Filtering, and then clear "Only show policy settings that can be fully managed".
