Video Recording Noise

Just out of curiosity, I've recorded some footage of a performance on a small DV Camera, but whilst playing it back on my computer, I've noticed that you can hear the tape moving on the recording, like a constant whine noise, I recorded a small clip this morning and it's the same again, is there any way I can get rid of this via Sony Vegas Pro or similar?

If you can record a sample of the noise alone (so in a silent room) you may be able to use the noise reduction technique in Audacity or similar - these work by inverting the waveform of the sample of "clean" noise and adding it to the recording so that it cancels it out, much like noise reducing headphones do.

But how would I apply the clean sound into the video sound on Windows Movie Maker?

Invert it using Audacity and import it to the music track in timeline view might do it.

There are very few ways of fixing this on teh camera itself, but can point to the camera dying ... the motor may be on its way out.

 

If the camera has a Mic input then it might be worth seeing if you can make use of that. there are some fairly cheap external Mics out there that you can fit with wind mufflers / shields, etc.
