Meet Kulula Airlines ...and their new paint job At last a funny livery that we can learn something from!

kulula.com is a South African low-cost airline. It operates domestic services to all major cities and regional services to Namibia, Mauritius and Zimbabwe.

 

Its main base is OR Tambo International Airport Johannesburg. Its headquarters are near OR Tambo in the Bonaero Park area of Kempton Park, Gauteng.

 

The word "kulula" is Zulu for "easily".

 

The kulula.com fleet consists of the following aircraft (as of December 2009):

 

* 1 Boeing 737-200

* 3 Boeing 737-400

* 1 Boeing 737-800 (7 more on order. with delivery in 2010).

Few points.

 

1) The new name for the airport sucks, it was Jan Smuts, then some generic post-apartheid name, than for convention named to Johannesburg International, and now OR Thambo which is another unimportant post-apartheid name, like renaming all the historic city names, Pretoria is due to be renamed Tshwane.

 

2) I've flown the airline, lovely and friendly, actually get a sense of humour rather than professionalism which is brilliant, I was once jokingly told the reason you put your head inbetween your legs is to kiss your ass goodbye, this made me laugh.

 

3) Not important or relevant, but I was born in Kempton Park (Not the race course) and lived in Bonaero Park Ext 3 all my life, right on the back of the airport Such a lovely place to grow up with all the aeroplanes flying around, actually the best point is watching the Antonovs taking off carrying gold/iridium/diamonds and uranium out of the country, they are absolutely huge.
