I've been having problems getting a trolley of laptops to talk to an access point for radius authentication. Looking at my radius logs all the clients were connecting to an access point in another room through several walls so it was no wonder they didn't have a very stable connection.

Upon scratching my head a bit I thought I'd set up another access point and try that one instead.

When I copied the secret key from the document I have it stored in ready to paste into the AP configuration it finally struck me.

In the past when I've copied it to paste it there has always been an extra (or so I thought) space at the end and I've remvoed this before pasting the key. Suddenly a light dawned and I realised that I must have in fact generated a secret key with a space at the end of it.

No wonder they didn't want to talk to the AP on the trolley it didn't have the correct secret key to talk to the radius server.

Doh!!!! :)

hehe

I've just changed it to not have a space at the end so just got to reconfigure the AP's now would love a centrally managed system right now :)

As the AP's either have a telnet/ssh or web interface to configure the settings surely it must be possible to write a system php or otherwise that is capable of pushing out settings changes to multiple ap's at a time?

The configuration for each model could be held in an xml file or something.

Anyone think this is possible or am I nuts?

Depending on your APs you can push a file out through a tftp server ... this is the bare bones of a managed system.

The other solutions involve getting a WLAN controller (we went with Cisco) which do require someone with Cisco training to config properly ... yes, I know it is an additional cost but it is worth it.
