Looks quite funky from the screenshots but not so keen on the rigidly enforced design specs...

It's a phone with all of the joy sucked out of it!

Serously though. I hate teaser pics like this. It doesn't look very inspiring and if anything could poke people who've been waiting for the new Windows Mobile platform inot the Apple or Android camps becuase they'll just look at it and go 'Nah, not for me thanks, I can already see what I'm goign to get from teh others and your's just doesn't look appealing at all'

It looks good, just found the Mobile World Release presentation video for it which I am watching now. It is in silverlight but buffers and streams amazingly smoothly for me. Starts at about half way through 6:11:10 or thereabouts

As to the OS if it has half the restrictions that have been hinted at I don't like it. I'll be sticking with WM6.5. Besides I only just got my touch pro 2.

 

Edit: Watching the video it does look impressive, it is an epic aggregator integrating with all the usuall web services and even sharepoint merging them all together into a single experience. It also looks to have some quite impressive technology in it too.

After looking at the vid there are some features I like. The inclusion of the Zune package will be a winner, although I don't like the fact that information is hidden when you want it all in front of you, the tiles look a bit too 'Fisher Price' for my liking.

This is where in 6 months time I'm wanting one after they prove to be quite good

Plus they've fixed OneNote Mobile... the person who previously decided that you don't need hand-writen notes on a phone needs shooting!

I love the little ad in the video at 6:50:43, if they advertised like that more often they would have a bigger userbase for stuff like Zune. I also like the idea of being able to get Xbox live achivements on my phone, might not be good for the productivity they were talking about but still

 

I like the fact that they are developing their own drivers and hardware support model so it will mean that they can actually be easily upgraded rather than being chained to carrier lazyness.

 

Its interesting that one of their core carrier partners is at&t which are the iPhone carriers in the US, the other is Orange. Other launch patners include Vodafone so there should at least be UK avalibility early on. Their planned launch is the end of this year (holiday season as they call it). The developer goodies will be unveiled at the MiX conference this march.

 

Presentation ends at 7:16 and then there are questions. One of which is flash support, it won't be there in V1 but they have no objection to it being added unkile certain compeditors

 

@Ric_ - I dont think that it does support hand written ones as you cant use a stylus on a capacitive touch screen.

 

@Dos_Box - I know what you mean about ending up wanting one, on the plus side it'll be years before they are avalible here unless I import again so at least that will dampen any impulse buying.

Yea, sorry about that, I figured it out and edited it while you were reading it.

 

I do agree that it does look good, its a long wait though I hope its still as awesome by the time they release it and that developers aren't forced through an app store - well, it'd be ok if there is an unrestricted free area for free apps

Wow!, looks really good. In fact if it works as well as it looks like it will from the above demo I'll be mighty tempted to chop my iphone in for one of these later this year.

 

Good to see MS have learned from all the mistakes of Windows Mobile 5/6 and finally standardised the feature set, design criteria and set minimum specs for handsets. I think that'll make a massive difference and will put MS back in the game when it comes to smartphones. IMO it looks a lot better than iphoneOS, android, Windows mobile 6.5 or any other phone OS out just now from what I've seen of it so far.

 

Shame about the current lack of flash support though.

The interface looks uninspiring, not a patch on the likes of Android or (dare I say it) the iPhone. There is a lot of competition at the moment for MS in this market.

 

Is it really necessary or desirable to have your Xbox highscores on the front of your phone? Why all that empty space on the right of the home screen? The transitions between screens seem very slow as well.

 

I don't think anything about this will set the world on fire.
