Limit the Max number of contacts sent to in one email Exchange 2007

Hiya,

 

Is there a way in exchange to stop emails being sent to more then say 20 recipients? for students only (they are in separate exchange databases on same server). As they seem to be sending lots and lots of !!! and i am fed up of having to remember to unblock users from email after two weeks etc, then i get moaned at as they havn't been able to send themselves work from home etc. I have googled it but can only seem to find information on blocking it Via SMTP but not helpful as its all internal

Hi,

 

I believe recipient limit can be set on a per-user basis by going to the Exchange Management console > Find User > Right Click, Properties > Mail Flow Settings > Delivery Options > Recipient Limit

 

Alternatively we use the following command in the exchange shell which applies the setting to a given OU

 

get-Mailbox -ResultSize unlimited -organizationalUnit “insert_ou_here” | Set-Mailbox -RecipientLimits 3

 

We have, however, found that if you have distribution lists (such as 'All Staff', 'All Students' etc.) it classes these as one user. You can get round this with the use of Transport Rules but it's a little more complicated.
