witch Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I need help please! Come on all you moodley-dudes I'm sure I have asked before but I can't find it so here goes again: We have two years of students on moodle put on using email addresses. We now want to upload the other two years BUT we don't have any more email addresses. We have tried doing it manally using a 'spare' email address but it won't let you use it more than once. We have tried bulk upload and it seems to work but the students cant get passed the registration page or get on to any of the courses. Everyone seems to say that you can have different forms of registration but we just cant do it. Please can someone help? (no, we cant get any other email addys for the children - hotmail etc all blocked)
mb2k01 Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I think I posted in another thread of yours with a similar question. Is there any reason you can't / don't want to use LDAP authentication? (Assuming each child has their own username?)
witch Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) Following the instructions, I can see 'LDAP support enabled' but I don't think the IP address specified is right. We only have one server (2008) so I am unsure of where to look. I don't know if the rest of the authentication is done and I am unsure of the type of user I need to create or how - I have read the instructions but I'm afraid they don't make a lot of sense. Whatever we do, it seems to want an email address, is this because my boss uploaded the first two years using an email address? Edited February 9, 2010 by witch
Ric_ Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 What the CLEO Moodle Tool Thingy does is set the emails [email protected] and disable mail. Is this an option?
witch Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 Isn't that something to do with SIMS? If it is, no good to me as I am on a separate network and have no access to SIMS at all
nadeem Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 just set email address to disabled in the import?
witch Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 just set email address to disabled in the import? Where? We have tried disabling the email address everywhere we could find it appears but it doesnt work. It LOOKS OK but the users keep getting the profile page and cannot get on to any of the courses tested this with individual user as well- disabled email - looks OK but doesnt let them in properly
nadeem Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 okay - I can do this fine (in a csv import) but then I've only done this for authenication set to manual (or radius) the other suggestion is that on the import page, you can tell it to not check for unique email addresses, so you could use your spare email address
witch Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 Thanks - will try that in the morning- it will be interesting if we can change the authentication
witch Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 Just to update: issue solved (we hope!) When new users are initially loaded into Active Directory, we fill in the email field with [email protected]. As long as this is done BEFORE the student ever tries to log in to moodle, then it seems to work OK even though the email does not exist
