SimpleSi Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 BTW - why is everyone jsut watching streaming video all day in their establisments I personally load/save documents and print with my setup regards Simon
featured_spectre Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 streaming pushes the bandwidth to the extreme and you can see the throughput in action.
Domino Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 How much did you guys cost. Did Ruckus give you a little fluffy dog to play with, are you that cheap? You add zero value to your institutions and obviously do not understand physics let alone Wi-Fi. I bet you spend your life playing Call of Duty. Go and configure a desktop, its about your level. Why? what did Xirrius give you? If they're looking to ingratiate themselves with a widely used tech website they aren't going about it the right way... Personally I am a Ruckus fan. It was cheaper than everyone elses, and in testing performed better. You install, configure and leave it alone - thats what I want from my network infrastructure. However, I'm not gonna go badmouthing other solutions, or the people that use it, based on my experiences. 3
witch Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 I DID get a little fluffy dog but I won't let it affect my decision as to which wireless solution to go with, and I resent the rather childish implication that it would.... He is a lickle cutie baby doggy though, isn't he? isn't he?
SimpleSi Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Well now we are talking about things that really matter... Aggy asked me if I'd got my dog - I said no- she says it was delivered. Now I wasn't bothered about the dog but Aggy was very concerned that I'd not received one and hinted that someone else must have nabbed off with it. I protested loudly ( ) that this was a Church school and no-one would do that and blamed it on the Post Office So she sent another one and I happened to be at the school when it arrived and I opened the box and got it out. At that point the head said- oh that's good we've got another one Turns out he'd opened the first package and half-inched it for his youngest and was now very happy another one had arrived so he could give it to his eldest because having one had caused "ruc(k)tions" The laugh is - it was delivered to my work address - which wasn't the school that actually bought the Ruckus kit regards Simon
witch Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 What did you do? Presumably it was addressed to you? Does the head routinely steal things sent to other people? After all, you might have requested it for your ill little brother or something.
Edu-IT Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 (edited) I'm still waiting for a dog I was told I could have, aren't I Simon? Edit: So as not to put CPLTD in a bad light, Ruckus was not purchased from Simon and this was simply a gesture of goodwill from him. Edited February 6, 2010 by Edu-IT
featured_spectre Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 If it helps, I have the report I wrote for my governors on my work server, I am happy to dig up the document and allow people to read it. It's fairly comprehensive, and covers the testing we did and signal range and how easy it is to scale up / down. When at work on Monday I will find it and attach it. Perhaps it can be the first comparison/review from an unbiased point of view? Now whilst I do like ruckus, remember the document was made when we were trying the equipment! Sound good to you guys? 1

We have been using Aruba for several years but have now started to hit its limitations with large classes of laptops in one area. I’ve got Xirrus in next week to demo the kit and they are leaving use some units to trial. I would be very interested in reading this document before they arrive.

Look how much we care about your happinese:D 1
SimpleSi Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Does the head routinely steal things sent to other people? I don't think so I think under LA rules we should all decline any freebies And since he insists that I go on the free 1/2 hour flight training in a real plane, - that we "won" by buying a new hall projector AV install - I won't be complaining regards Simon
Popular Post featured_spectre Posted February 7, 2010 Popular Post Posted February 7, 2010 I dialled into work and scoured my server, attached is the file which was written for our governors (do excuse how dumbed down it is!) 6
localzuk Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Just to point out, the info regarding HP in that document is now pretty outdated. The new HP managed gear works in the same was as other managed systems. A central controller, and AP's hung off edge switches. The old HP stuff (before they bought Colubris) was pretty poor, it has to be said.
Soulfish Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I dialled into work and scoured my server, attached is the file which was written for our governors (do excuse how dumbed down it is!) Excellent report. Really helpful to see the various options and how they stood up to your testing. I've had Xirrus out to do a site survey in the past, and still need to contact Aggy to do a site survey with Ruckus kit. Unfortunately site wide wireless is on the back burner due to a lack of budget, but I'm hoping that with a good site survey we may be able to roll it out incrementally over the next few years in connection with a number of network upgrades that need to take place
featured_spectre Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Well I think it's fair people benefit from my testing. My school is a nightmare for wireless and as the report shows, ruckus does the job
