Flakes Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 can anyone help me out with automatic login using LDAP for an intranet? Ive looked through several articles but i have to admit im struggling to get my head around a lot of it, im currently building a replacment School Notice board/Intranet for internal use only, what i would like is for the user to browse to the page and for the server to automatically pick up who is logged into the computer. Ive seen it done before in opensource projects including MRBS and the liberium help desk, so i know its possible but how do you do it? well so far ive only managed to succeed in giving myself a headache....specially since im pretty sure i have to use ASP, a language im not familiar with. ive been looking through: How to authenticate against the Active Directory by using Forms authentication and Visual C# .NET but it doesnt appear to be what i need/want.
plexer Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Is this intranet site running under iis? I guess so as you've mentioned asp in that case just use the built in authentication mechanisms? Ben

Ben i would but for ease of use and functionality for the teachers i wanted to dismiss the use of a login box altogether, also learning ldap authentication would come in really useful in the future. However if it comes down to the worst scenario i will just use the built in authentication using IIS.
allan67 Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Why not use sharepoint for the intranet site?
plexer Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 integrated authentication using iis on a domain won't prompt them for login credentials. Ben
Flakes Posted February 2, 2010 Author Posted February 2, 2010 I realised why i kept being asked for the username and password i was using Firefox, however i found away around that, using the about:config in firefox. type about:config into the address bar, filter for ntlm doubleclick: network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-ums enter the name of the server you are running the site from... now i just need to find a way to pass these settings down in group policy as most of our users use firefox, in IE the site does not ask for username and password.
plexer Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Yes that would be why. Or you could look at an ntlm proxy for use with firefox maybe? Ben
