tosca925 Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 I found the below on a ICT Newsgroup. Has anyone here tried this in their school. Has anybody ever tried http://schools.fantasyleague.com/ in the past or going to use it this year for the first time. I am just wondering if it is worthwhile and if your school found it beneficial to use. We are a 11-18 Comprehensive and are seriouslly thinking of giving this a go
MkII Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Our school has done it and found it very successful. We do have an excellent maths teacher delivering it who was an ex advisor. She is really keen on anything that grabs the kids attention and she certainly worked wonders with this. Kids were checking there inter school league places all the time - several times a day. I'd say it was a success anyway
Ric_ Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 In my last job, the maths department ran it. I didn't see the point myself - maybe the educational aspect wasn't explained fully
StewartKnight Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 We ran it at the last school I worked at, and the kids loved it. I don't think it was about the "education", but about engaging with the kids, as even the less able students were able to "take pride" in it, win the weekly "who scored the most points" etc.
MkII Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Our maths teacher teaches it as 'real world' Maths - something she's really good at teaching - she'll be getting the kids to do all sorts of stats on the results etc..
