Server 2003 Event ID 4016

Morning All,

 

I am hoping that somebody can offer some assistance to a school that I have recently taken over looking after but have been having some problems with their 2k3 DC.

 

Every couple of days the server just locks up, the only way to get it going again is a hard reboot,

 

Event ID 4016 & 4004 entrys in the DNS log indicate a problem with DNS & AD, however I have had a look around and all seems in order. Event log is below:-

 

The DNS server timed out attempting an Active Directory service operation on DC=33,DC=1.168.192.in-addr.arpa,cn=MicrosoftDNS,DC=ForestDnsZones,DC=School,DC=local. Check Active Directory to see that it is functioning properly. The event data contains the error.

 

Basic layout is:

 

23k Server ---> Cache Pilot Box -----> Internet

 

and suggestions or advice on where to look next for a solution...

What is the servers DNS settings? Is it set to look 'upstream' for lookups or locally?
