Acer - Fingers burnt again

Now this is my fault rather then Acer's and I usually never touch them after their DOA policy but I needed a cheap PC and I found a open box model for less than £300 with a 19" monitor.

 

It comes with windows 7 too... I haven't got my network running 7 yet as its on my list of half term jobs but I can't find XP drivers anywhere. Its a Intel chipset so i have found the chipset drivers and the graphics but the sound and the network one is a mystery.

 

Like I said, not Acers fault just a pain as I've spent half the day looking for drivers.

Do you know what chipset the audio hardware is based on? Most seem to be Realtek, try using that

SIW should be able to ID what nic it is etc

 

At a guess I would either say broadcom or intel

Managed to find the NIC driver on the HP site.

 

So the computer does have all the XP drivers available its just Acer doesn't list them and wants you to use Windows 7... CONSPIRACY

I had the same thing with a new Fujitsu machine - only supported Vista/7 drivers on their website so had to manually track down the XP drivers. Found a free piece of software called 'Unknown Device Identifier' that worked in the same way as the other piece of software mentioned above.

Which acer model is it?

 

We've been doing a lot of business direct with acer recently, and have 0 complaints about service, etc or anything. We havfe our own section on their faults website we log an issue and its resolved within 24 hurs even if it needs an onsite visit. Bought a combination of over 300 of the Aspire 1410 and the Aspire One models in th elast 6 moinths with another 100 to be ordered soonish..

 

Dunno what Acer UK is like but Acer AUS has been a good experience so far.
