Fronter - Parental Access

Can parent access Fronter? Is there such thing as a parent tool? Can parents access Fronter?

One of the main reasons behind VLP is so parents can have access. I think one of the goals is so parents can see there child(s) reports in real time although this is not working yet. Just give the parents a username with access to there childs room and no other rooms. Unless you have a parent room, not sure if I would want to give parents acess to much more then that.

 

EDIT: Perhaps access to a notice board type room would be usefull.

we have 1500 students from yers 7 - 11, are suggesting 1500 different usernames/password or just one general username/password for parent access?

It depends on what type of information you want parents to access. If it’s just a notice board type room or a calendar room one username they all share should work. If you want the parents to only view their own child’s work that requires 1500 usernames and passwords. If you want a forums for parents to leave messages it might get confusing if they all share a username.

 

The 3rd option is to let the parents log on from home with the child’s username and password. But here might be some sort of rules against that I don’t really know.

 

Are the parents not in sims? Can you create 1500 usernames from sims in the same way as you did for the children? As long as sims is uptodate it should not be much work. (assumeing you use sims)

It's a manual process. It should be using data from SIMs (or whichever MIS you're using) and be automated as per the student data upload.

 

 

 

We're using SIMs Learning Gateway for access to reports, attendance, behaviour etc...
