Alternative to Microsoft Outlook

Hi guys and gals,

 

I have been looking at moving from Microsoft Office to an open source package but I have one problem...

 

My phone synchronises with Microsoft Outlook and I love this feature, not only do I have an up-to-date address book and calendar on my phone, it also acts as a back up and has saved me in the past!

 

Does anybody know of an open source Outlook alternative that I would be able to synch with my phone?

 

I suppose it's not a big deal if I can't find one, I'll just keep using Outlook 12!

I dont know if it syncs to your phone but you could look up Mozilla Thunderbird

Hey Clarky,

 

I am aware of both the Thunderbird 2 and MemeCode's i.Scribe/InScribe software but unsure on the functionality of synchronisation with phones. I just wondered if anybody had any experience or knew a definate yes or no, before I start having a play myself.

I'm not sure about calendars as Thunderbird doesn't have this built in but as far as contacts are concerned, it can be done with Thunderbird. Export them to a a file and then import this file into Windows Address Book. It's not as 'automatic' as Outlook but it definately does work and I much prefer Thunderbird. Assuming your phone can synch with WAB that is.

Well that's certainly promising....I'm not one of those that is constantly 'synching' so doing a bit exporting and importing won't be a problem. Thunderbird has a calendar add-on and apparently it might be fully integrated into Thunderbird 3, so I might give that a try too.
