Very interesting indeed, add the power with Spring Source and Zimbra could quite possibly become a big thorn in the side of Microsoft, added the complex modelling, and licensing for large installations.

 

Have been a fan of Spring for some time, and nice to see a solid and determined company taking over the venture. I'd love to see fast improvements for Spring Roo, with all the money I'm sure this wouldn't be a problem at all.

Apparantly Zimbra will be sold to VMWare in the near future. I'm lazy so I'm not getting you links, but a simple google search will bring up plenty of results.

 

Does this pose a problem for the users of 'free' versions of Zimbra?

Ahh, but I don't see the big powers buying smaller things as a bad thing. Look at Sun buying xVM and Mysql, the improvements are outstanding to both, integrating already existing great products to the correct backing they require.

 

I've always been under the impression that Zimbra was the clear choice when comparing "Exchange Systems" now hopefully if VMWare get the product they can throw everything at it, and compete at a much better level than previously.

 

Everyone knows VMWare and their products, heck the majority of virtualized environments are running under VMWare and those consumers will be more than happy to try another VMWare solution out.
