So is anyone elses air con not too happy with the loverly winter weather?

Server room was hot this morning - Air con had gone in to de-ice mode and was actually blowing warm air!

Erp!

It's back to cool air now. I hope the temps dont drop too low again!

My Mitsubishi Mr Slim has never failed, it's been on almost continuously for 4 1/2 years now with just a week or two off in the summer if servers are off for upgrades/maintenance.

Not that it's all that cold here though, and it doesn't have a heat unit.

Yeh mine is a Mitsubishi too.

Its -1 here.

Apparently it will go into heat mode to protect itself from freezing up :(

Most units have a defrost mode to un-freeze themselves if they freeze up its to stop them going pop and having a quick leak all over your server room, its just that you don't always notice them doing it. In winter I turn mine back up from the low level of 16 to 19 that seems to keep it going well and the server room is still really nice and cold.

Let it thaw, if you can turn it off and open doors etc to keep the room cool and let it thaw the natural way perhaps? Its the outside unit that will have frozen so perhaps its best letting it thaw or put it in the defrost mode (a lot have that) and let it do its stuff, forcing it to cool will just keep it as a block of ice and risk it going down again.

I went out on the roof and checked my outside unit this morning and it looked fine.

The cold snap makes it over condense and the internal bit gets too cold and then freezes.

Putting mine on a coil dry cycle does the trick and ends up with bits of ice being pelted around the server room.
