JailBreak iPhone

Hi,

 

I am thinking about jailbreaking my iPhone so i can use a sim card from abroad in it.

 

I have some quick Questions

 

1. is this the correct website: Dev-Team Blog

2. is this the correct download: PwnageTool_3.1.4.dmg (download torrent) - TPB

3. How will this work with backing up my phone. Everyday i plug it in to backup will anything change? Also if i need to remove the software i can restore the settings in iTunes. Can i then restore a backup to the phone that was taken from a jail broken one?

Search on Youtube for "Dinozambas". His videos are the best I have seen and show quite easily how to jailbreak your phone and then where to get cracked apps.

It works the same way as usual. The only difference is that you can drag cracked apps into iTunes and they will work on your phone. If you need to restore you just reset (wipe), update and then restore from backup all in iTunes. Just make sure you have everything set to backup and you will be fine.

 

Make sure that you get the correct firmware. It is not always the same version as you are currently on e.g. 3.0.1 crack was actually still 3.0.0 cracked firmware etc. As I said in prev post. Check out Dinozambas on Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/user/Dinozambas

Just to confirm that i can

 

A: Restore a backup on a jailbroken phone onto a none jailbroken

B: Restore a backup on a none jailbroken onto a jailbroken

 

ie the backups can be restored both ways?

 

also i cam using Iphone OS: 3.1.2 will this jailbreak?

A thing to note about Iphones is that they have in effect two partitions one for OS and one for your data.

 

The OS one is jailed and data isn't so jailbreaking in effect makes the OS one writeable and adds in new firmware that allows stuff to be installed in the jailed area.

 

So data partition is not touched in jail break process.

 

Reading good book at moment on how to conduct forensics on an IPhone. The basis of jail breaking are used for this. As if your conducting forensics on Iphone it means you can jail break an Iphone with out breaking any user evidence. Also amazing what information is kept on the phone..

 

Would be nice if had spare Iphone to try stuff out but not brave enough to do it on my own Phone.

You can restore a JB image onto a Non JB phone if you wanted to reverse it, all applications will be there, but they won't work. Only applications that are legitimate will work, the others will fail to load.

Reason being is that i am in Australia so 3G will cost a bomb and i have no WIFI here.

 

Also do you have to do something else to allow any sim?

Really interesting and also an eye opener to what Iphone stores (and also your itunes) an example is that if you click home button while an app is open then it takes a screenshot so that phone can do fancy effects on reopening an app..

Yes, download the .app files and then simply drag them into iTunes \ Applications and Sync.

To jailbreak and unlock any current iPhone on 3.1.2 (Latest) use blackra1n it will JB it in under 30 seconds (Mac and PC)... I've used it loads since it been released.

 

Then install Cydia from the blackra1n app... You now need to install blacksn0w to unlock the baseband. To do this do the following...

 

1. Open Cydia and install new source by going to Manage menu. The source URL for the blacksn0w is blackweather

 

2. Search for the Blacksn0w app. Click Install Button

 

3. Confirm installation

 

4. Wait for installation process to finish

 

5. After installation make sure to reboot your iPhone in order for unlock to take effect.

Cheers for the reminder had that one jotted down. Australia is the only country it affects i don't fancy getting it while i am here.

 

Where would i download the .app files please?
