Moodle Course Reset

Hi all,

 

I was wondering if any of you have been able to reset Moodle Courses on mass, or to unenrol people on mass?

 

Would love to hear if any of you have done it!

Yes,

 

For the unenrollment of students it would be much better if you set up the "Unsubscribe users from courses after" setting in the admin area.

 

Server -> cleanup

 

This was dueing your summer holidays it will unenroll them from all of their courses.

 

On the other hand if you wanted to delete them you could do this under:

 

Users -> Accounts -> Bulk User Actions

 

Then you could select all of the users and delete them..

 

We currently have ours set up via our Active Directory so all we need to do at the end of the year is delete all of the accounts from the AD and they no longer exist in moodle.

There are many great tutorials out there and the one moodle provides done the trick. To start with the first question would be how comfortable are you with AD administration. The work required is very simple but it may take a few minutes to get your head round.

 

Basically, long story short you need to do the following:

 

Get a CSV with your course codes, course titles using a tool i made which makes it easier to manipulate CSVDE you import it into your active direcory to create Groups in 2 locations.

 

You have 1 OU for Students & 1 OU for Staff..

 

Example:

 

domain.local

Courses

Students

Staff

 

In each of these OU's you will have exactly the same group, although using AD User & Computers wont let you make duplicate groups.. CSVDE will because it will use a random SID instead of the specified one in ADUAC..

 

Now, what we then do at the beginning of each year, or half way through the year when we import users is we add them to the groups which correspond to their groups. Many students are enrolled on multiple courses so when we do AD Bulk Imports they have large group memberships.

 

The next stage is then to configure moodle to talk to your AD via LDAP. This can be done by going to:

 

Site Administration -> Users -> Authentication -> Manage Authentication

 

Under LDAP server you then need to configure all settings to your needs. It is very simple to follow.

 

The bit that threw me to start with was the final stage under Data Mapping in the LDAP server settings.

 

Make sure you have the following:

 

First Name = givenName

Surname = sn

Email Address = mail

 

You can add more if you have more entries in your AD.

 

 

Below is a list of my example settings:

 

Host URL = ldap://123.123.123.123

Version = 3

LDAP Encoding = utf-8

 

Hide Passwords = Yes

Distinguished Name = [email protected]

Password = Lol... Your password

 

User Type = MS Active Directory

Context = OU=Students,OU=Accounts,DC=domain,DC=local

Search Subcontexts = Yes (Your Choice)

Dereference Aliases = No

User Attribute = sAMAccountName

Member Attribute = blank

Member Attributew uses dn = blank

Object Class = blank

 

Force Change Password = No

Use Standard Change Password Range = Yes

Password Format = Plain Text

Password-Change URL = blank

 

Expiration = No

Expiration Warning = 10

Expiration Attribute = blank

Grace Logins = No

Grace Login Attribute = blank

 

Create Users Externally = No

Context For New Users = Blank

 

Creators = No
