If we decided to move our webserver(s) hosting from our own ADSL connection over onto the YHGfL connection, would we be able to get two independant IP addresses mapped for them??

 

Reason being cPanel/WHM licensing requires one license per IP address, but we'd be running 2x servers (1 being a mirror), and would thus need 2 licenses and 2x public-facing IP addresses.

There are two ways of doing this. Ordinarily, we would use and do use a reverse proxy to facilitate access from outside the grid to websites that are hosted within schools. This improves the security of the servers within schools etc. We can in exceptional cases where a reverse proxy will not under any circumstances do the job you are after, allow the mapping of our public IP addresses. We would have to be satisfied of the security of the boxes however. Let's have a discussion on it. Log it with your LA as an information request to start the dialogue, and then when everything is finalised, we will turn that into a change request.

Excellent - shall have words with our Network Manager and get him to set that in motion at beginning of next year at a guess. Servers are behind ISA firewall at the moment on the YHGfL side.

 

Our current setup is basically:

 

YHGfL (10Mb Sync) > ISA > our network < ISA < ADSL (4Mb down, 756Kb/s up)

That doesn't need a dedicated IP... that just needs reverse-proxy and an SSL certificate tied to the domain name... OR you whack Moodle on your webserver and use the Facility-to-Moodle block, and then you can have full parental access via your regular webserver over port 80.
