Seem to be waffling around the internet trying to find a half-assed way of accessing a 2000 machine from the core Windows XP network.

I know 2000 didn't have this function, however are there any other means to getting it enabled or alternatively another product to access the machine seamlessly.

I mean no dialogs or prompts to login and the likes.

Anyone have any suggestions?

That's not technically true. If you enable Terminal Services through Add/Remove Programs on 2000 Server you can control it using Remote Desktop from XP for example. You just can't do it the other way around. To do that you'd need 2003 Server or later.
