Allow access to media from anywhere on the network with a link to active directory so that we can set necessary permissions. 2. Allow the "Tagging" of photos 3. Live Record from at least 2 sources such as freeview/sky but preferably have the ability to record from any input 4. It must have some sort of remote access, preferably through our VLE I've done a bit of research but haven't really come across anything decent, does anyone have any recommendations? Also, does anyone that has already set one up on a network have any advice that would be useful to know?? Thanks in advance, Kieran.

Buy and install a member server which can be a File Server only. 2. Allow the "Tagging" of photos Just name them accordingly? 3. Live Record from at least 2 sources such as freeview/sky but preferably have the ability to record from any input I recently bought an MVision HD-300 Combo which has Digital Terrestrial (Freeview) and Digital Satellite (Freesat) inputs. Installing a USB hard drive allows you to record content. You can optionally install KMPlayer and play back on a PC. 4. It must have some sort of remote access, preferably through our VLE Within school you could create special network drives where users can host/upload content. Due to the size of some media, uploading to a VLE would not be appropriate. A VPN with Remote Desktop type solution would be more appropriate.

Basically, it's an Ubuntu machine joined to our domain with Likewise Open and a Python script that runs over the image store directories to do de-duplication at the file system level. Folder and file names are treated as tags and used to create a web-based search engine type interface. It just handles image files at the moment, I'm not quite sure what to do with video. -- David Hicks

It's just a challenge putting all our DVDs on it as you have to capture them one by one. A bit of a drag.
australiana Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Hi, I assume that the DVDs are programs captured from free to air (commercial DVDs can't be transferred due to copyright). A way around the transfer hassle, which we use, is to download from the Clickview Exchange. There are thousands of free to air programs there, many of which have all the extraneous stuff (ads etc), already edited out, and downloading is pretty quick and straightforward. ClickView Exchange - exchange.clickview.co.uk If some of your DVDs are movies then you can find 'legal' versions (ie free to air versions) on the Exchange as well. zag Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Spare computer + big hard disk + Imtoo dvd ripper = media server. Cost about 150 quid I think. We stream all of ours from sharepoint media services. Works great.
