Danlewis3 Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Hello all, We have two server rooms and we just purchased some new NAS boxes, i have a widget on my mac that monitors them. We currently have NO AC in the server rooms and the boxes are running at 43* - 47*C Is this dangerously high for them to be on constantly? Thanks
Edu-IT Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I'd definately look at getting some cooling in there! 47*C must be very warm. It's 23.7*C in my office at the moment and I'm hot, so 47*C would be too excessive for a server room.
Avalon Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 that sounds very dangerous to me! we keep our server room at 19 degrees which seems about right
Guest Guest Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 (edited) 43-47*C on the motherboard? Its warm, but its not massively hot. Before i got my new case my home PC ran at around 40*c and its never been turned off in 2 years so... And im persuming your NAS boxes will be small so id probably say that is to be expected. Or is it like Edu-IT said and thats the ambiant room temp? Coz yeah that is hot! Edited November 30, 2009 by Guest
torledo Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 (edited) Hello all, We have two server rooms and we just purchased some new NAS boxes, i have a widget on my mac that monitors them. Thanks as sparky says, please clarify if you mean mboard temp or ambient room temp. under normal operating conditions, this type of equipment should normally be able to operate in ambient temperatures up to 40 degrees [although 40 degrees would be at the very limits for normal operation, check the documentation/specs] . If your server room is getting hotter than that the equipment may still operate for short periods, but if on constantly your running a major risk. have you got any probes monitoring the room temperature ? Ideally you want to get the room temperature right down, and the best way to do that is AC, as presumably switching stuff off isn't an option. Edited November 30, 2009 by torledo
superfletch Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 From the OP he is talking about the boxes themselves - not the ambient room temperature... "i have a widget on my mac that monitors them" AND "the boxes are running at 43* - 47*C" Otherwise he'd say, "I have a thermometer in the room and..."
