...Install MS SQL 2005 and Veritas Backup Exec??

Hi. Been having problems using MSSQL and BackupExec. Tried a new installation on a spare server, installed MSSQL with all the options ticked, then installed BackupExec 10d with MSSQL added.

 

When creating a new backup job, the database is listed under the Server Local Selections, but when trying to select it, we receive the following error message "An error was encountered while attempting to browse the contents of SERVERNAME\DATABASENAME. A network connection to the server could not be established.", Backup Exec is installed on the same server as MS SQL.

 

Symantec (Veritas) wont talk to us either, without a support contract.

 

Anyone got any ideas what we're doing wrong??

Does Backkup Exec 10d use Microsoft SQL Server 2005?

 

I thought it used MSDE or SQL Sever 2000?

Have you applied the Hotfix?

Needs applying on the backup server and the server running SQL 2005 with SQL backup agent - but in your case with both running on same server should just have to run it once.

You are just trying to backup a SQL 2005 database and not use SQL 2005 Express as the databse backend for BackupExec?

 

If not, as NetworkGeezer says, its MSDE or SQL 2000. Doubt they would support 2005 as a backend even with a support contract :-)
