Bandwidth use

Is there any software out their that can monitor and report on what users/pc's are using the most bandwidth and even go as far as to tell you what's been downloaded?

 

I know ISA server does this but we don't use it any more as our connection goes though our frog box.

It would really have to be at web proxy or gateway level (depending on granularity and number of protocols you need monitoring). Generally, web proxy is the best all-round solution, as most traffic is web in many edu environments.

The Current proxy is set up to be the Vle box (frog) and all internet traffic goes though it then onto the router, so I would need some thing to sit between the frog box on one side or the other ?

What is frogbox? Does it run windows?

I use a progam called bitmeter on our ISA (which is the gateway) to monitor things.

Its not a Windows server, we cant install software on it.

but maybe you could nick the logs off it (I presume it keeps some, somewhere) and do your own analysis (sawmill etc.)

I dont think it logs that, and no we dont have sawmill?

 

I think i might just have to revert back to using ISA server.

rob: would be worth having a damn good fiddle with the frog box - if you can get the raw logs, we wonderous edugeek types will help with the rest - give frog a ring and say "Ribbit, can I dump web logs of your box, ribbit ribbit" see how that grabs them

Just talked to them, and they cant give me any info and i have been told there is nothing more they can do, swgfl cant help either so my internet is grinding to a halt and i cant do a thing about it, am i the only one that thinks the fact swgfl cant see what's going on is VERY bad as they provide the connection?#

 

Currently getting 22 kB /sec on a 8mb line

 

Goes off to hit head on wall.
